The west peak.
Nuptse — 'the west peak' — is the dramatic wall that frames Everest from the south. Its steep pyramid hides the true scale of the massif's western flank above the Western Cwm.
Despite being a subsidiary ridge of the Everest massif, it is a serious mountain in its own right with long, corniced ridges and a troubled avalanche history.
