MANASLU

8,163 m

The mountain of the spirit.

01 — The Mountain

The mountain of the spirit.

Manaslu — from the Sanskrit manasa, 'intellect' or 'soul' — is the eighth-highest mountain on Earth and the highest peak entirely within the Gorkha district. Its circuit is one of Nepal's great restricted treks, crossing the 5,106 m Larkya La.

The climb shares infrastructure with the trek as far as Samagaun; above, the north-east face offers a relatively direct line to the summit, though avalanches and weather remain the defining risks.
