The turquoise goddess.
Cho Oyu — 'the turquoise goddess' in Tibetan — is the sixth-highest mountain in the world, 20 km west of Everest at the head of the Nangpa La, the historic salt-trading pass between Khumbu and Tibet.
Its north-west ridge presents no technically extreme ground, which has made it a favourite objective for ski and snowboard descents and for climbers making their first entry into extreme altitude.
