EVEREST BASE CAMP
01 — Overview
First-time Himalayan trekkers with good fitness who want the complete high-altitude experience.
The walk to the foot of the highest mountain on Earth is the most storied trek in the world — and it earns every metre. From the airstrip at Lukla the trail follows the Dudh Koshi through pine and rhododendron, climbs the famous Namche hill, then enters the high alpine world of Tengboche, Dingboche and the Khumbu Glacier.
You don't see Everest on day one. You work up to it — the mountain revealing itself in stages, each viewpoint more staggering than the last, until you stand on Kala Patthar with the entire south-west face filling the sky.
- Kala Patthar sunrise — the definitive Everest view
- Tengboche Monastery at 3,867 m
- The Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar
- Khumbu Glacier and the Everest Base Camp moraine
- Suspension bridges strung with prayer flags
